NYMHCA Awards

To be awarded at the April 20-22nd,2012 Convention.

Counselor Educator/Supervisor Award:  To recognize the work of an outstanding counselor educator or supervisor.  This individual must be regarded as an exemplary educator/supervisor whose commitment to the profession and to his/her students is demonstrated in a variety of ways.

Outstanding NYMHCA Regional Chapter Award:  To recognize and promote the efforts of an exemplary regional chapter or interest group.

   Criteria includes:

      Chapter Activities:  including presentations, meetings and other functions throughout the year    
      designed to promote NYMHCA, the networking among chapter members, professional
      development, the mentoring of students and the development of working relationships with local
      counselor education programs.

      Organizational Structure:  Evidence of a well-developed and active organizational structure which
      provides leadership opportunities to NYMHCA members wishing to participate in the organization
      at the local level.

President’s Award:  To recognize an outstanding leader who is a model for commitment and leadership within NYMHCA.  The award is intended to honor and recognize a NYMHCA member whose dedication, energy, service and leadership have strengthened the organization is such ways as: membership growth, innovative program development, and in the enhancement of member services.

Thomas W. Clawson Award for Service:  To recognize an individual who has significantly impacted the public, the profession and/or NYMHCA.  Nominees may be nominated for time and effort given on behalf of legislative policy at the state or national level, and for significant contributions to the professional concerns of NYMHCA, and to stimulate future service for the wellbeing of the mental health counselor profession.

Outstanding Counselor Education Student:  To recognize a graduate student who demonstrates academic excellence, commitment to the profession through advocacy efforts, and strong leadership skills.

Outstanding Research Award:  To recognize a mental health counselor who has made a significant contribution to the profession through research.  Criteria could include: the development of an original counseling theory; the superior design and execution of research programs; explorations of new research areas, and a significant contribution to knowledge in the field.


General Nomination/Selection Procedures

•All nominators and nominees must be current members of NYMHCA.

•All nomination packets must be received by March 21st and should be sent to the NYMHCA office.

•Nomination packets must include the following:

  • A completed nomination form.
  •      Two (2) letters of support from other individuals.
  • A letter on nomination (no longer than 2 pages) from the nominator that
       speaks directly to the nominee's qualifications for the award.
  •      The nominee's vitae.
  •      A phone number where the nominator can be reached.
  • Researcher of the Year Award should include published article(s) for which
       the member is being nominated.

•   When considering nominees for each award, consideration should be given for
    nominees advocating and furthering the commitment to cultural diversity within
    NYMHCA.

•Specify on all materials the award for which the member is being nominated.
